When do kids learn to tie their shoes?

👟👟👟

When they are around 5 1/2 or 6 years old you want to start putting them in lace-up shoes. Is this a pain in the butt? Yes, but it helps them learn. By 5, I like to see kids be able to make a knot so they are halfway there. Typically your kindergarteners will also see older kids tying their shoes and thus be more motivated to get it done.

Usually, I like to recommend halfway through your first year of kindergarten. Get ready January....

What can you do to help? Finger knitting is something that helps build dexterity and strength in little fingers, and thus prepares them to tie their shoes as it takes really good fine motor control.
