When to Start Swimming?

When to start swimming? πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ This is a picture of my 3-year-old swimming with her favorite instructor @lisafinebergcookfrom @kidswimla.

There are a number of different approaches to swimming and I have researched them all. From the ISR (infant self-rescue) to the 6-week intensive courses, Lisa's methodology takes into consideration the psychology of the child's development. She sets up the child for success by providing foundational knowledge for learning how to breathe first. The act of blowing bubbles may seem simplistic and basic but in reality, it's the key to learning how to properly breathe when swimming.

She even wrote a fun book that you can read to your toddler before getting into the pool. (Check out the book β€˜See Me Bubble’ in my Amazon shop)

So when do you start... Interestingly, your child can swim before they can walk. When you think about it, they start life by floating in the amniotic fluid, so the movement is intuitive. I will be starting my youngest when she is 6 months old depending on the weather. I started both my kids at 6 months with @kidswimla

*if your child suffers from eczema one thing to do is to rinse off immediately after getting out of the pool with just water. If you find that their skin is a little irritated you can give them a soak with organic baking soda. I always make sure to moisturize when the skin is still wet.
