Teaching Kids to be More Independent
How do you get your kid to be more independent? ๐ฏโโ๏ธ๐ฏโโ๏ธ๐ฏโโ๏ธ
Every parent knows it is hard to get your kid dressed in the morning. When your kid starts school they find the need to control even more things... they do this with food, sleep, bowel movements, and sometimes even clothing choices. So what do you do?
1) You can streamline your drawers to make it easier for your child to grab and go. I have one drawer just dedicated to @minimioche teeshirts, tanks, and pants and my kids can easily grab any of it and put it on. They mix and max easily so they don't need me to help. I have another drawer with underwear and socks. Not only does this empower them but it is one less thing for this #momofthree to do! โ
2) Have a basket of shoes by the door where they can grab and put them on themselves (This is why you see dedicated baskets for each person in my family when you come to my house). This also avoids the question "MOM, where are my shoes?" ๐
3) I always keep backpacks and lunch bags in designated spot in the kitchen so they can grab their backpacks themselves. ๐
**Funny story: How did I teach my husband to never forget anything when we were in college: I had a sign on the door that said "phone, keys, wallet, backpack" and I would make him repeat this every day. To this day he still repeats this although he still manages to lose things once in a while ๐
