How to Prevent Sickness!

What do we do, or should we be doing, to prevent getting sick?

  1. When I pick up the kids from school/camp I hand them a Handzies wipe to clean their hands. 🖐🏽

  2. No shoes in the house. 👟

  3.  Wash hands with soap and warm water 🧼 for two minutes and dry thoroughly with a towel when they get home right after school/camp.

  4. Change out of school clothes. 🩳

  5. These are the supplements I give daily during cold and flu season: (make sure to check with your physician)

@tasharose.herbalist Sweet Victory Elixir use code DRORGANICMOMMY

@maryruthorganics vitamin d3/k2 use code DRORGANICMOMMY

@maryruthorganics liposomal vitamin C use code DRORGANICMOMMY

@maryruthorganics ionic zinc use code DRORGANICMOMMY

  6.  Eat lots of prebiotic rich foods 🥬 (almonds, legumes, apples, cabbage, etc.)

  7. Teach kids to cough into their elbow. 😷

  8. Don’t overschedule kids- their bodies need time to recuperate. There are a lot of back-to-school activities and birthdays, so try to have one day a weekend where you have nothing committed.

  9. A hearty breakfast 🥕, let’s face it, most kids don’t eat much of their lunch as it is social and play time. The Guardian highlighted that children consume half their recommended maximum daily intake of sugar at breakfast. The National Diet and Nutrition Survey found that on average children have approximately  11 grams of sugar before they go to school. The increased sugar intake can weaken their immune system.

~ I recommend healthy breakfast options such as; veggie-loaded oatmeal, smoothies, buckwheat pancakes, eggs with veggies, toast and sauerkraut etc.

  10. Limit refined sugar foods. Children should not have more than 24 grams of added sugars (this is for children ages 2-17.) Now let's think about this, a 2 and 17-year old vary in size, so why are they allowed to eat the same amount of sugar? Check out Dr. Goran’s book, Sugarproof, for the daily sugar intake breakdown according to the child’s age.

  11.  Good sleep hygiene 💤 PubMed Central found that children’s sleep has decreased by greater than an hour over the past century, which has led to a wide range of negative outcomes.

  12. Get dirty, like actually playing in the mud - we have become too sterile. A good book to check out is Eat Dirt
